Our Crystal Lake plant has 2 focus factories under one 500,000 square foot roof: Containers and Syringes. Containers range in size from one quart to 30 gallons, used by hospitals to hold medical waste and sharps. Our Syringes are 12 ml syringes that will mainly be filled with saline and used to flush intravenous lines.

Job Description

The Tool Room Supervisor will be responsible for the assignment and directing of daily activities of the Tool Room personnel as they relate to the preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of injection molding and automation tooling.

Work closely with production, maintenance, quality assurance, production scheduling, etc. to achieve the greatest efficiency and quality of tooling repairs and PMs.

Will lead root cause analysis of tooling damage and manage internal and external resources for repair of tooling. Organized project management of tooling and operations initiatives required to drive the Tool Room to accommodate the expansion of the molding operations.


Provide guidance, maintain scheduling and distribute workload for tooling personnel on all shifts in daily operations and other projects.
Develop and maintain Team Member accountability for all issues identified in accordance to plant policies / procedures.
Ensure compliance with all Corporate and Crystal Lake Safety procedures and policies. Responsible for ensuring that all accidents and near misses are reported and investigated within the shift and all corrective actions are addressed in a timely manner.
Responsible for actively driving Safety excellence and supporting Safety initiatives to eliminate accidents and safety hazards in the workplace and recognize outstanding safety-related Associate accomplishments.
Technical tooling support for the development of new products in conjunction with Corporate Tooling and Crystal Lake Engineering.
Coordinates Mold and Tooling Projects to meet Corporate Tooling requirements, capital and expense budgets, and timelines.
Technically support and advise the most economical repairs of existing tooling.
Serve as the technical mentor for tool room lead, mold makers, and machinist.
Assist Engineering associates in conducting various studies and programs as necessary to determine the root cause(s) and solutions to undesirable variations in machine processes.
Preparation of reports for the Maintenance Manager on performance metrics for Tool Room.
Preparation of Capital Expense Requests (CER/s) and submission of proper close out forms upon completion.
Foster group decision making and teamwork through open and honest communications, constructive feedback, delegating authority, positive performance reinforcement, and healthy relationships based on mutual trust, respect and leading by example
Improving the availability and uptime for tooling while providing support to manufacturing.
Interacts daily with all Focus Factory management associates to ensure tooling needs are met.
Assist in Systematic Injection Molding (RJG) installation by managing and diagnosing RJG tooling/sensor related issues.
Responsible for developing and maintaining Tooling Preventative Maintenance Program, Spare Parts Inventory System (MAXIMO) and PMO (PM Optimization) in a effort to reduce downtime and scrap and increase productivity.
Research companies for superior and more cost-effective tooling or repair methods when implementing new systems or upgrading old ones.
Ensure processes meet or exceed government requirements under FDA, OSHA, GMP, EPA, ISO, etc.
Training, directing and evaluating respective technical staff.

Education required/preferred:
Technical Bachelors degree in engineering, tooling or related discipline preferred and 5 or more years of supervisory experience.

Preferred 10 or more years with Injection Molding Tooling

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Computer skills, Mechanical Drawing Software, Mechanical Drawing Comprehension, oral and written communication skills.

Mold design, mold making, injection molding, tool making, project management, ,

Other Skills:
PLC troubleshooting/Electrical/Mechanical/Hydraulic/Pneumatic

Organizational Relationships/Scope:

Frequent contact with: Management Staff, Focus Factory Production department, Finance Department, Quality Assurance Department, Corporate Engineering and Human Resource Department.

Working Conditions:

1. Office and production floor.
