Macro Plastics is the worlds largest manufacturer of bulk plastic containers. Based in Northern California with sales and manufacturing facilities located worldwide, Macro Plastics provides innovative business solutions for the agricultural, food processing, retail, and industrial markets.
We are currently recruiting for a Shift Supervisor for our plant in Shelbyville, Kentucky. This individual will be responsible for the safe operation of plant equipment and systems to assure optimal production quantity and quality. Working closely with the Plant Manager, the Shift Supervisor is responsible establishing and assuring smooth production operation during the assigned shift, and for developing and managing an effective production staffing, including hiring and training. This is a hands-on supervisory position, contributing to the training, productivity and effectiveness of the production department and plant as a whole.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, creative, have a positive attitude, and possess strong technical, leadership, organizational and communication skills. A demonstrated commitment to safety and quality, and capabilities to manage in a 24/7 environment are essential.
Position responsibilities include:
Ensures that direct report(s) are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the department responsibilities and goals can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
Communicates regularly with all direct report(s), both individually and as a team (if applicable), to ensure good two-way communication concerning progress and other issues.
Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contributions. Manages performance issues within company guidelines, working with Human Resources.
Complies with the Companys Human Resources policies and procedures, and promotes the awareness of, and compliance with, these policies by direct report(s).
Manages employee shift schedule to include: work station assignments/rotations, training, vacations, breaks, overtime assignment, back-up for absences, and shift rotations; also is the immediate contact with the staffing agencies when temps are needed.
Oversees production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
Conducts daily shift meetings.
Responsible for meeting shift production goals, including safety and quality.
Responsible for quality control. Make adjustments as necessary during shift to produce product within specifications. Reject product outside of specifications.
Responsible for providing a daily summary accounts shift log
Responsible for start up and troubleshooting of machines, molds, materials, and auxiliary equipment, ensuring machines run within operating parameters.
Assures safe housekeeping standards are maintained at all times, ensuring a clean and safe work area.
Ensures that all production reports; purchase requisitions; and accident/incident reports are prepared on the correct forms and are properly completed and entered.
Other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
Experience
2 to 5 years experience in the plastics industry
Supervisory experience desirable
A broad base of current technical knowledge to ensure that safety standards are met and efficiencies are maintained.
Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery.
Job-specific Skills/Knowledge:
Basic mechanical, electrical and hydraulic principles
Injection molding
Forklift operation
Safety standards
Quality control
Material testing and process improvement.
Other Requirements:
Problem solving and decision making abilities are essential for success.
Ability to function in a fast paced manufacturing environment where frequent interruptions will necessitate a reevaluation of priorities.
Exhibits sound and accurate judgment
Conveys information in a clear manner; ensures that others understand instructions or other information that is communicated
High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required (Related work experience can be substituted for educational requirement.)
Valid Driver's license and good driving record required

To qualify for this position, candidates must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds in a safe manner. In addition, this position requires the ability to climb ladders and to work in confined and/or high spaces. Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers. Working conditions for this position are normal for a manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, you would be regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, hot or humid conditions, high noise situations, and to petroleum based lubricating products. In addition, you may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and chemicals used in plastics processing.
