Setup Technician WI 33 - 44k (J#27382)
Education: Associates Degree
Experience: 1 - 3 years

Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to
fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists hand tools.

Study specifications such as blue prints, sketches, models, or descriptions.
Visualize product to determine materials required and machines used to fabricate parts.
Compute dimensions, plan layout and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
Verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
Lift machined parts and position and secure parts on a surface plate or worktable.
Fit and assemble smooth and contoured parts together and into assemblies.
Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
Connect wiring and hydraulic lines for electrical and hydraulic components.
Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures.
Recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of mold assemblies.
Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools.
Draw or sketch design of product.
Use CAD system to determine size of components to be machined.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Transports tools and dies between production area and toolroom using a fork lift.
Assist with pulling or setting mold into machine.
Observe machine operation to detect tool and die malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary.
Operate overhead hoist/crane to position tools and dies.
Electric discharge machining (EDM) experience preferred.

Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs,
and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Design - Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical
plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Hands
on experience using measurement devices, i.e. calipers, micrometer, height gage, etc. Knowledge of
Statistical Process Control (SPC) procedures and applications. Experience using computer software products,
i.e. MS Excel, MS Word.
Mathematics - Ability to read blueprints and work with complicated mathematical concepts.
Education/Training - Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two year college or technical school,
3-5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Journeyman card preferred.
