Quality Engineer NY 40 - 70k (J#25001)
Education: Bachelors Degree
Experience: 1 - 3 years


Provide technical engineering support and training in the QA disciplines to establish and improve systems and procedures that confirm understanding and delivery of customer requirements.


30%Develop testing and methods of control to ensure cost effective product quality that meets or exceeds the products quality specifications and standards within the regulatory restraints under which the company operates including but not limited to:

Developing and modifying methods of measurement and inspection work instructions for new or existing products in the most accurate, cost effective, and least labor intensive manner while still ensuring product quality. Providing statistical information for quality improvement and cost savings through data acquisition, analysis, and technical evaluations;
Designing or specifying gauging mechanisms and/or testing apparatus for new or existing products to effectively reduce inspection time, improve accuracy and repeatability, and reduce the complexity of determining product acceptability;
Investigating quality related problems with products and processes, working inter-departmentally, to determine cause, recommend corrective action, and implement necessary modifications to QA system to establish and improve control; and
Performing internal quality audits as assigned and write up findings as a result of the audits, recommending corrective action necessary.

25%Assist manufacturing departments with development of customer projects including, but not limited to:

Planning and performing capability studies, analyze data, and make recommendations to achieve acceptable CPKs and minimize inspection required for product quality verification;
Providing comprehensive data and first piece dimensional measurements to customer including engineering for mold and/or process qualification;
Acting as QA representative for sampling projects which requires initial measuring to evaluate if sample should continue as is or if changes must be made to tool/process, acquire necessary parts for full analysis as required, create a report summarizing data, analyze results, and sign off or make recommendations for improvement;
Proposing preventive actions as a result of a Last Shot meeting with engineering, manufacturing, and quality representatives, and verify effectiveness of the actions taken;
Providing necessary data and dimensional measurements to verify tool and process modifications yielded desired results.

20%Assist manufacturing departments with production and analysis of on-going customer projects including, but not limited to:

Making day to day decisions on product acceptability acting as the customer representative, and creating or eliminating deviations from product specifications based on necessity;
Providing input on quality to product development teams;
Recommending production improvements through data driven evaluations and by applying continuous improvement principles and techniques to critical areas of production; and
Responding to customer complaints and corrective actions, interfacing with the customer and departments internally to rectify problems and to continuously improve product quality.

15%Administer the companys on-line Statistical Process Control (SPC) system with duties including, but not limited to:

Creating standards for each part attribute within the software program;
Designing data entry templates for each part;
Writing complex formulas to enable automated entry from external devices and cavity progression;
Creating a planned session for testing of the data entry session, creating a stored session for actual entry by floor/lab personnel, troubleshooting system should errors occur, monitoring database to isolate problems and locate trends then report to appropriate departments for action;
Creating statistical charts and reports as necessary for process and/or tool adjustments to improve capability; and
Training operators in entry and editing as needed.
5%Create programming for Shimadzu tensile tester including, but not limited to:

Determining fixturing necessary for test being performed;
Creating a test method by determining variables needed for proper testing; Writing the program for testing;
Creating reports for interpreting, analyzing, and summarizing results; and
Training personnel in use for production testing.
5%Create quality documentation necessary for part approval by customer including: 100% First Article Inspection Reports, Control Plans, FMEA, and Capability Studies.


Contribute to the overall success of the company by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.
Accuracy is an absolute necessity as many decisions regarding tool/process work is directly based on data provided or reviewed by QAE.
Decisions regarding product acceptability must be factually based and take into account associated levels of confidence and risk factors.
QAE is to function as a representative of the customer and take action accordingly.
Devise and implement various complex methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision, reliability, and accuracy of products and processes.


Four-year degree in engineering science or math and two to 5 years experience as a Quality Assurance Engineer is required. ASQ certification is preferred.

Equivalent previous work experience as an Internal Auditor will be considered.


Assign work for Quality Technicians on weekends.
