JOB SPECIFICATION

JOB TITLE: Molding Process Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Molding Process Engineer will be asked to prepare detailed working diagrams of machinery, tooling, and mechanical devices, including dimensions, fastening methods, and other engineering information. Equipment will include presses and automated equipment.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Engineering Manager

Direct Reports: none
Indirect Reports: none

Peer Relationships: Engineers, Inspectors

IDEAL EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 5 years Molding Process Engineering atmosphere and experience with injection molding systems preferred.

KEY PROJECTS TO BE ADDRESSED:
Develop preventative and predictive maintenance plans for molding machines
Develop list of essential spares and ensure the inventory levels are optimized
Seek out methods to reduce variance caused by equipment. Take necessary steps to control input variables and eliminate noise variables
Establish and manage equipment supplier and service provider relationships
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Maintain molding process stability by monitoring metrics and control levels (utilize statistical tools to make decision and plan changes)
Initiate short-term and long-term solutions to improve overall molding processes
Understand and monitor molding control technology and equipment
Troubleshoot molding process issues and implement corrective actions
Perform engineering changes in alignment with internal quality requirements
Research molding problems, design and monitor tests, develop corrective actions
Maintain engineering documents and work instructions as required
Train all supervisory personnel in the proper use and operation of manufacturing equipment and processes
Design manufacturing equipment and tooling
Establish, modify, implement, and monitor systems and procedures
Work with production lead operators to improve manufacturing efficiencies and output
Interact with all support systems pertinent to molding operations such as environmental engineering and maintenance personnel
Manage expectations, provide collaborative feedback, coaching, and mentoring
May perform other duties as requested
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent in related environment
Working knowledge of control systems, cascade control, PID tuning, ladder diagrams, function block diagrams, PLC SCADS programming
Working knowledge and basic understanding of the basic principles, theories, concepts, and practices in injection molding
Good understanding of metals-forming technologies, with exposure to powder metallurgy, casting, and/or injection molding technologies
Analytical skills to troubleshoot molding process changes (electrical, mechanical)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Basic understanding of statistical methods

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
READING SKILLS:
Ability to read, write and comprehend materials in English.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply 'common sense' understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
