Polymer Engineer CA Open (J#27899)
Education: Bachelors Degree
Experience: 1 - 3 years

As a Polymer Engineer one is responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities:

Perform basic to intermediate troubleshooting of injecting molding and extrusion machines
Perform hands on assembly, wiring, troubleshooting and programming of machines/equipment
Research, integrate and implement technologies (such as: thin wall injection molding, insert/over molding, tandem/stack molding, metal injection molding (MIM), co-extrusion)
Develop new materials/compounds for Production use
Develop, design, qualify, and troubleshoot End of Arm Tooling (EOAT)
Develop, design, and qualify advanced tips and dies for plastics extrusion
Design and qualify new tools and fixtures
Implement process improvements such as: update injection molding and extrusion process parameters, perform process efficiency studies for manufacturing, add line expansions, etc.
Troubleshoot and determine the root cause of complex issues that may be related to molding, automated machines, or product/process design
Generate documentation (drawings, test protocols, reports, troubleshooting guides, manufacturing instructions)
Manage individual projects that range from Product Design, Mold Design, Tip and Die Design, Process Design, Injection Molding, and Automated Machine Qualification
Manage projects by developing a project schedule, preparing costing, conducting meetings, and communicating issues and/or project progress to management

Job Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

Education in Plastics Engineering (BS, etc.)
2+ years experience in injection molding processing
Team player with good attitude and willingness to assist wherever necessary to get jobs done
Knowledge of injection molding principles
Knowledge of polymers, plastics, materials, and processes commonly used in injection molding
Ability to troubleshoot and fix existing equipment/devices
Ability to work in a fast paced team environment
Ability to communicate clearly with all team members any updates, issues or questions via verbal and/or email correspondence
Perform basic mold cleaning
Set up, start and troubleshoot injection molding machines
Set up, adjust and troubleshoot End of Arm Tooling (EOAT)

Job Preferences

The following skills and attributes are preferred:
Knowledge of plastic extrusion, monofilament extrusion, programming and controls
Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic devices commonly used in automation
Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, turning, plastic forming, sheet metal fabrication, etc.)
Knowledge of ARBURG, Toshiba, Krauss Maffei and Sumitomo injection molding machines
Knowledge of Yushin robotics
Ability to come up with feasibility studies and design concepts using SolidWorks
Ability to build and test/debug a working prototype from a design concept
Ability to create 2D detail drawings (familiar with ANSI 14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing), bill of materials, and assembly drawings
Hands on or supervisory experience of building automated equipment, electro-mechanical equipment or mechanical prototype fixtures
