Mold Design Engineer CA 80 - 100k (J#22358)

Job Summary:
The Tool Design Engineer is responsible for all aspects of new tool construction from quote through release of tool to production including CAD development, part design for manufacturing, and mold design.

Primary Duties:
Develop and layout all aspects of new tool construction from quote through release of tool to production
Generate tooling quote package for bid process for new business opportunities
Provide design recommendations to customer to make part more efficient to manufacture
Develop mold design for all new tools and engineering changes
Review time lines with Program Manager for all new tools and engineering changes
Provide feedback to suppliers on mold trials for tuning of mold for production release
Work with overseas vendors to develop new sources for tooling
Work with Tool Room Manager and Plant Manager on tool repair recommendations
Work with Tool Room Manager to quote changes to existing tools
Participate in the milestone meetings as a tool is brought into production
Participate in the planning and start-up of each new tool
Participate in the planning and trial of existing tooling for process improvement and engineering change
Work with sub-contractors on molds and repairs that cannot be done in KSIs Tool Room
Attend mold design meetings and mold trials at customer and vendor sites
Develop, maintain, and enforce Kennerley-Spratlings standard mold specifications
Limited travel to China for supplier development and tooling trials
Provide a support function for Production
Miscellaneous jobs and duties as requested

Strong injection molding background related to materials, product design, and tool design
Engineering Degree is preferred or successful completion of a mold making apprenticeship or combination of education.

Minimum of 5 years experience in CAD with Solid Works and ProEngineer using advanced features such as surfacing, thread design, and other complex designs. Familiarity with AutoCAD
Strong CAD construction skills and mold design background with experience building 2-plate and 3-plate molds, molds with hot runners, hydraulic cores, and hydraulic unscrewing features
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Must be assertive, detail oriented, and have strong organizational skills
Must have the ability to identify and develop solutions to problems
