Position Summary

Our Crystal Lake plant has 2 focus factories under one 500,000 square foot roof: Containers and Syringes. Containers range in size from one quart to 30 gallons, used by hospitals to hold medical waste and sharps. Our Syringes are 12 ml syringes that will mainly be filled with saline and used to flush intravenous lines.

The Maintenance Lead will be responsible for leading and directing Maintenance Technicians in the safe, proper and timely completion of maintenance activities in the Containers Focus Factory. These are sharps containers ranging in size from one quart to 30 gallons, used by hospitals to hold used needles and syringes. Specific duties include assisting with establishing the day-to-day activities of the maintenance department, maintaining and updating all maintenance systems within Maximo and in plant files. Planning and implementing outage plans, and providing technical assistance and training to the Technicians. Hands-on duties include: the inspection, preventative maintenance and repair of various plant equipment, including injection molding, robotics, auxiliary equipment (thermolators, pad printers, labelers, loaders, grinders, blenders, etc). Improve existing processes, develop new and cost effective manufacturing concepts, lead scrap reduction teams through lean methodologies, and actively participate in value improvement projects. Must be able to work a 12-hour night shift, from 6:30pm-6:30am.

Principal Accountabilities

Repair and maintain all molding equipment and facilities expediently to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all equipment required to maintain a positive and productive workplace.
Perform Tool set-up, start-up, shut-downs, maintenance repairs and PMs on injection molding machines.
Responsible for scheduling leave, maintaining time and attendance records, maintaining schedules and logs, counseling employees on minor problems, resolving minor problems and complaints. Makes recommendations on appraisals, promotions, awards and discrepancy action
Hands-on maintenance experience in installation, setup, maintenance, procurement and upgrade of building electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems.
Experience in maintenance, refurbishment, selection and procurement of manual and automatic equipment in a high speed manufacturing environment.
Must have in-depth knowledge and understanding of all equipment problems and works closely in cooperation with production supervisors and leads to schedule repairs that will not interfere with production schedules.
Lead mold set-ups, statistical process control, robotics, stack molding, material handling, chillers, automation and process troubleshooting of various types of thermoplastic injection molds, machines and resins activities to ensure efficient production of quality products.
Troubleshoot and repair all electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems in the molding department.
Works with Engineering to qualify and implement new and alternative plastic materials and colorants.
Participate in set up reduction improvements of specific injection molding presses, molds and auxiliary equipment through Kaizen improvements activities.
Prior experience with Allen Bradley Control Logix Processors and RSLogix 5000. Understanding of control system design and network communication interfaces is desired.
Develop, write and implement all aspects of electrical control systems used for all aspects of injection molding machine, auxiliary equipments and robotic systems.
Understands principals of a Color Measurement system and continually monitors Color data.
Documents and maintains all relevant process data to ensure quality and dimensional stability of
parts throughout production.
Install auxiliary equipment (robotics, conveyors, part chutes, etc.) as needed to complete proper setup.
Ensure that all maintenance records and related paperwork are filled appropriately and kept in compliance with FDA & ISO standards.

RequirementsEducation required/preferred:
High School degree or equivalent. 2yr Engineering Degree Preferred Electrical/PLC background a MUST.

Experience:
The Candidate must have extensive experience (+5) repairing injection molding presses and auxiliary equipment and performing process troubleshooting; specifically Nessei, Toshiba, Van Dorn, Mitsubishi and Husky. Previous Lead or Supervisory experience required.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Must be able to work independently from written or verbal instructions and posses basic computer skills.

Ability to operate forklift, overhead hoist, and any other equipment necessary to perform duties.

Skills/Competencies:
Extensive knowledge of measuring equipment, blueprint reading hydraulic and electrical schematics are also required.

Other Skills:
Mold process and set-up RJG scientific injection molding

Organizational Relationships/Scope:

Frequent contact with: Production Personal, QA, Purchasing, Accounting, Leads, Supervisors, Management and Outside Venders.

Working Conditions:

1. Office and Manufacturing Production Floor Setting.
