Extrusion Project Engineer MI Open (J#27421)

We offer an exciting opportunity for innovative, self-motivated Engineers who are looking for well-rounded, hands-on experience within a stable and unique industry. Plastipak is the largest privately-held rigid plastic manufacturer in North America, with global operations.
This role is charged with the support and implementation of Wheel and Extrusion Blow Molding Best Practices throughout the enterprise.
The Extrusion Process Engineer will install, troubleshoot, and set-up our Wheel Blow Molding Systems at all of our facilities. They will also be a Wheel Technical Expert and provide recommendations for performance improvements utilizing, lean manufacturing, and project management skills.
This position would require travel domestically and internationally, which entails approximately 70-80%.
The balance of time would be spent assisting in the development of best practices; training and educating others on technical aspects of Wheel blow molding, and assess the performance to determine areas of focus.
- Analyze Wheel performance metrics in an effort to standardize and develop best practices within global sites.
- Provide on-site technical services and quality support to our sites with a focus on problem identification and resolution
- Installation, troubleshooting and debugging of Wheel and downstream machinery.
- Lead process improvement projects utilizing six sigma, lean manufacturing practices.
- Lead installation of extrusion systems
- Knowledge of downstream systems, such as trimmers, labeling, and case packing equipment
- Explore new technologies and implement those that are applicable to the operation.
- Works in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
- Follows and enforces company and local work rules, safety rules, policies and work instructions.
- Miscellaneous related duties as assigned.


- Technical degree and /or experience in the industry is a must.
- Must have hands-on and technical knowledge of the Wheel Blow Molding process
- Black Belt Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing experience is preferred
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills as demonstrated by local testing, transcripts, and/or references
- Excellent inter-personal skills as demonstrated
