Design Engineer OH Open (J#27424)

POSITION TITLE:Design Engineer

DEPARTMENT:Design

REPORTS TO:Department Head - Design

POSITION SUMMARY: Design and development of rigid plastic containers and related blow molds, injection molds and related tooling.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibility and authority as outlined in the Quality Manual, Operational Procedures, and all Instruction manuals.

Functions within an ISO/Team environment effectively.

Responsible for reporting food safety issues to personnel with authority to initiate action

Responsible for and has the authority to design and draw preliminary sketches, prepare layout and detailed drawings, using standard computer aided design practices and equipment.

Documents and records information by entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in electronic form.

Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that may be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.

Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materi-als, properties, and process advantages and limitations.

Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated re-ports.

Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility of designs.

Research, design, and evaluate mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.

Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.

Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.

Confers with project engineers and other technicians to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, provide technical information, and prepare design modifica-tions as required.

Provide feedback to project engineers on customer problems and needs.

Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.

Design test control apparatus and equipment and develop procedures for testing products.

Minimizes Plastipaks exposure and risk on engineered designs.

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable to all state and federal laws.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Bachelors degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology; or, an Associates degree in Engineering Technology with five years of experience in the plastics industry.

Knowledge and use of CAD/CAE software; CATIA V5 preferred.

Knowledge and use of related computer software, i.e.: SAP, MS Word, Excel and Access.

Strong verbal communication skills as demonstrated during the interviewing processes to effectively communicate with peers, management, customers, and vendor representatives.
