Automation Maintenance Technician III - Assembly

Department Name: Automation Maintenance
Reports to: Automation Maintenance Supervisor
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday | 2:00pm -11:30pm
Shift: 2

Position Purpose:
Under minimal supervision performs advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance to assembly machines and related equipment. Performs electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and PLC program modification or upgrade to enhance equipment performance. Coordinates and prioritize maintenance activities. Generates and implements equipment maintenance procedures. Trains lower level technicians. Participates in training program and attends technical seminars. Generates and implements equipment maintenance procedures.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:
Performs advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance to molding and/or assembly machines and related equipment.

Performs electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and PLC program modification or upgrade to enhance equipment performance.

Coordinates and prioritize maintenance activities. Communicates with production personnel to ensure they are satisfied with maintenance service provided.

Trains lower level technicians in all areas of equipment repair and maintenance.

Generates and implements equipment maintenance procedures.

Evaluates need and generates part requisition to ensure replacement parts are stocked in inventory.

Documents repairs and maintenance activities using established procedures.

Seeks to improve own skill level by participating in a training program and attending technical seminars.

Other Job Functions:
May be required to carry a communications device.

May be required to work overtime and/or varying hours as necessary.

Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

Requirements Education/Training Required:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of trade school preferred.

Experience Required:
Six years experience in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
KSA #1: Excellent mechanical skills with knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, and electrical theory, typically acquired through two years of trade school and/or six years of related experience.

KSA #2: Proficiency in use of precision measuring instruments including electrical metering equipment, multi-meters, calipers, gauge pens, etc.

KSA #3: Ability to read and write in English sufficient to follow and give written instructions and perform written documentation in a specialized field.

KSA #4: Computer literacy required for CMMS, electronic mail communication, spreadsheets, and word processing.

KSA #5: Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to work as a member of a team and to provide training to lower level mechanics.

KSA #6: Ability to read ladder logic and PLC ladder diagrams and upload/download PLC programs.

KSA #7: Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and associated engineering documentation.

KSA #8: May be required to purchase own hand-tools and some electrical troubleshooting devices.

Physical Demands:
Ability to lift and carry steel parts weighing up to 50 pounds.

Ability to climb stairs to gain access to upper level work area.

Ability to push and pull with the arms and body to move items on two-wheeled dolly, four-wheeled cart, and hydraulic pallet jack.

Ability to stand and walk to perform machine and equipment inspections and to perform needed repairs and adjustments.

Ability to sit on a minimal basis to complete documentation on machine and equipment breakdowns.

Ability to work in a variety of positions (bending, kneeling, crouching, lying on back) to gain access to areas on machines.

Ability to climb up and down a step stool to gain access to areas on machines with rare use of a stepladder.

Manual dexterity, hand strength and coordination sufficient to grasp and use power equipment and hand tools and to handle a variety of parts.

Finger dexterity sufficient to use precision measuring instruments, to manipulate nuts, bolts, screws and other small components and to complete paperwork activities.

Visual acuity sufficient to perform machine and equipment inspections and to perform needed repairs and adjustments on machines and equipment.

Hearing sufficient to analyze machine sounds and to communicate with individuals.

Work Environment:
Works in the shop and plant with temperature controls. May be exposed to chemical fumes from the molding process when on the molding floor and exposure to industrial lubricants and cleaners. Uses safety equipment to include: steel-toed boots/leather-upper shoes, safety glasses, ear protection, dust mask, respirator, and gloves.
